While the year 2001 witnessed hardly any shopping done online, with the transaction value less than one billion, the number climbed to nearly 500 billion in 2010.

　　A number of factors may account for the change in the chart, but the following are the leading ones. In the first place, the number of netizens has grown substantially in China in the past decade thanks to the advances in the telecommunication industry, which has created a gigantic group of potential online shoppers. In the second place, the merits of shopping online have made the boom of online business possible. For one thing, it saves time and labor which traditional way of shopping costs. For another, due to the reduction in the links of circulation, commodities supplied online are usually at lower prices than those in the conventional way.

　　In conclusion, this chart is a perfect indicator of advances in communication technology as well as changes in the mode of business and people’s life style in China. Undeniably, there have cropped up undesirable phenomena in the same process, such as frauds in advertising and selling, but we have reasons to believe that they can be eliminated as long as effective measures are taken by the public and authorities and we can count on a brighter future of online shopping.
